WORK UNTIL YOU’RE 75 – 81 – ARE THEY SERIOUS?
This is the picture LOCKS,
Unfortunately, YES. For those of you who have attended any of my previous conferences or seminars, you may recall the section that covered the WELFARE STATE UNABLE TO MAINTAIN IT’S PROMISES. People need to understand the seriousness of the situation and realise that the State Pension is only provided from the taxes they collect. There is simply no way that they can meet their future obligations in the light of the unprecedented amounts of debt that the whole Western world is sinking under.
Having support in older age is going to take more than relying on the false promises of Western Governments who clearly do want to admit that there is no way State Pensions can be maintained in our debt ridden economies.
BUT WHAT IS THE ANSWER?

For many years now, I have been advising clients that the likelihood of receiving a State Pension in the future is dwindling.
This was BEFORE the 2008 global debt crisis began. Now 8 years later, we are seeing the whole monetary system coming under serious amounts of stress as governments try to convince the people that all is under control. It seems to me that withholding reality only continues to mean people living in an illusion. Is this a good thing? Maybe it might keep people from initially panicking, but don’t they deserve to know what is really happening? Without it, they will eventually discover the truth when it is too late for them to rethink their own plans and objectives?

The truth is that we are heading for the most serious financial regression that anyone has ever experienced during the past 60 years. The debts that governments are creating cannot ever be repaid and the promises of welfare and pensions benefits cannot possibly be met under the existing circumstances. The problem is, that governments don’t really want to say so and sadly, most people don’t really want to know either.

I have been advising people on their financial planning for over 35 years and during this time, I have hardly ever met a client who has really understood what they need to save or how to save to be able to create an income when they stop work. I have literally seen thousands of people and received the same response. But WHY?

Because the truth is that it takes hundreds of thousands of pounds in savings to create funds that will do the job. When people realise that they have to make some serious choices about living for today or tomorrow, they nearly always choose tomorrow. We live in a culture that promotes this ‘hang tomorrow’ syndrome. We have all somehow been lured into what has become a pleasure seeking, fun filled, entertainment based culture. Imported from the USA, this culture took root during the 1960’s and has purposely caused most people to become immunised against reality or truth. It has become embedded into our psyche and we now believe the illusion that has been sown in the hearts and minds of millions or people. The illusion, that we can progress forever and somehow, something, will be around the corner that will set all things OK again! This time they will be wrong.

But now – the days of reckoning are here. The numerous news articles that I have been sending for the past few years demonstrate this to be the case. Reality is ffinally being seen for what it is. People can see that the emperor has no clothes. People are finally being told by the government that they cannot afford to meet state pension obligations. In addition, we are seeing all kinds of ‘tax raids’ on private pensions as they struggle to keep the systems going a little longer. But this doesn’t just affect state pensions. For those people relying on private pensions or company pensions have also been deluded. This is because the projections for growth based over 8 years since the global financial crisis in 2008 are totally unrealsitic. The ‘Actuaries’ who calculate all the factors that need to be considered in making pension promises to millions are also completely out of tune with reality. The growth rates they work with (averaging 7% per annum) are impossible to sustain in the light of the deflationary times in which we now live where global growth is contracting and negative interest rates are applicable. Yet despite all this, the rhetoric from governments and news media continues to give false hope (although, in fairness, the media is actually now spelling these things out more clearly).

People are going to need to find other ways to be able to survive in the coming years. They will need to rely on each other and begin to form real ‘community’ once again. Something we have lost during these fun filled years of face book, twitter and numerous other false ideas about what makes up real community. But who is taking the lead?

What role does the church have to play?
The need for stronger communities of people who will love and support each other in the coming years has never been greater. But this coming debt crisis raises many major questions for everyone. What will everyone do when the value we now place in our money system falters and money contracts, even disappears initially? How do our existing ‘communities’ currently operate? Will they have the knowledge, experience, capacity and understanding required to be able to withstand major shocks to our money system? Will they be able to operate? Will they have the ability to help and support average families, the poor, the sick and the elderly in the face of the additional enormous massive financial cuts that are likely to be imposed on our society?

The church can play an enormous role in bringing hope of a very different future to people in these times but it must be ready.
Do we, as Christians know what we are facing? Have we prepared ourselves to be more resilient as local economies and communities? Will we be strong enough practically, mentally and spiritually to be able to act as ‘rescuers’ and ‘places of refuge’ for many people who will be at a complete loss to understand what is happening?
